If you have kids, keeping a clean and organized car can be difficult. And if you’re like most people, you spend a lot of time in the car. This can make the problem even worse. Fortunately, there are some great options that help, and with a little effort, you will find that keeping a clean and organized car really isn’t all that hard to do.

Use a Back-Seat Organizer
Having kids means having toys… There’s no way around it. And if you’re like most people, your kids take toys with them everywhere they go. Your kids probably have a toy box or other central location at home to store their toys, but do they have one for the car? Consider purchasing a back-seat car organizer to help keep those toys contained. Many styles even come with pockets for storing electronic devices such as cell phones and tablets.

Use a Car Trash Can
Keeping trash contained is a completely different issue. Many people choose to re-use plastic grocery bags, and it seems like a great idea… Until the bag leaks or busts open. Not to mention, there can be some confusion about which bag is the trash bag when unloading groceries from the car. I like to go with a better option that keeps trash neatly tucked away and keeps my car looking nice and clean.

A few of my favorites:

Take advantage of Down Time
Keep packs of car cleaning wipes in the car. While waiting in the drive through or waiting for the kids at ballet or soccer, take advantage of the time and wipe things down. Doing this frequently will help prevent the dust and dirt from piling up.

A few of my favorites:

Choose Non-Messy Snacks
It never fails… Get in the car and head somewhere, and the kids start saying they’re hungry. Skip the drive-through where they will get greasy fries and chicken nuggets! Be sure to always have non-messy snacks on hand. Things like dried fruit, granola bars, or dry cereal are not only healthier, but they are much easier to clean.

A few of my favorites:

Change Your Habits
This is probably the most effective of all for keeping a clean and organized car. It can be so easy to get lazy about this. Things like throwing trash in the floor or stuffing it in compartments like the door pockets or the console contributes to the mess. Throw your trash away and be sure to empty it when it’s full. Instead of leaving things in the car, empty them out when you get home. Doing these things is simple, and will go a long way when it comes to keeping your car clean and organized.
