As I grow older, the Christmas season changes each year. I can remember as a child, I would stay awake all through the night Christmas Eve, filled with excitement and wonder about what the morning would bring. When I became a parent, seeing that same wonder in my own children’s eyes was something to behold. Today, I look back over the years, and while every year was different and special in its own way, there was always a constant.

Jesus…

We have all heard the saying that “Jesus is the reason for the season,” But how deep does that resonate with you. After celebrating His birth year after year, it can be easy to go through the motions and possibly even set aside the true story of Christmas. We often get caught up in the hustle and bustle of finding the perfect gifts for our friends and loved ones. We want to get the tree up and decorated just right. We want to make sure we cook a gazillion pans of casseroles, huge hams and turkeys, pies, cakes, salads, and the list goes on. But do we forget to keep the main thing the main thing? Do we forget to keep our hearts focused on what this is all about?

Jesus…

He IS the reason for the season… The birth of Jesus is nothing short of beautiful. A baby born for the sole purpose of bringing life and light and peace to this world. A baby who would eventually make the ultimate sacrifice so that we could have eternal life.

Jesus…

He was a king like no other king. His birth, life, death, and resurrection are all unique to only Him… The King of Kings! So when you celebrate this Christmas season, take the time to reflect on the birth of Jesus. Remember his goodness. Remember His purpose. And thank Him. He is worthy…

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
