Trusting God when things are going well is easy. It’s when we are broken-hearted, disappointed, and struggling to understand life, that it can be so hard to trust Him. But He tells us clearly in His Word to trust Him with all aspects of our lives… not just the parts that are easy, or the parts that seem to be all sorted out. He wants us to trust Him with everything… Our deepest desires, our biggest fears, and our hardest battles. But how can we totally trust Him, knowing that He will work it all out?
When going through difficult times, it can feel impossible to see that God can be trusted or that He even cares. Many times, we wonder, “Where are you, God?” But look past your circumstances, and remember the times that He saw you through difficulties in the past. And remember His Word. God loves you, He hears every prayer, and sees every tear that you cry.
“As for me, I call to God, and the Lord saves me. Evening, morning and noon, I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.” Psalm 55:16-17
Have you ever taken your eyes off Him and gone your own way? I don’t mean blatant sin or disobedience, but simply making decisions in your own wisdom, thinking you’ve got it all under control. How did that go for you? Probably not so well. When you lean on God and trust in Him, He will lead you and show you the way. Trust God, and let Him direct your paths.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Trusting the Lord means letting go of our own expectations and our own understanding. How often have you expected Him to do one thing, but He did another? Or perhaps He was silent and did nothing when you expected grander things to happen. We have a difficult time understanding God’s ways, but His ways are higher than ours, and He has our best interest at heart. In Jeremiah 29:11, we learn that He even has plans for us… plans for a hope and a future! He sees the bigger picture, so rest in His promise and let Him work things out for you.
